Are you starting to feel a little bit cooped up? We certainly are. So we thought it would be good for all of us to have some fun and something to look forward to together, while helping our neighbours at the same time.
We bring you the Living Room Picnic!
What is it? The Living Room picnic, is a community picnic from your own home. Set up wherever you'd like, as long as you are staying safe, at home.
When is it? Saturday, May 16, 2020
What time? There is no set time, so hold your picnic whenever it works for you!
How to support your community
This is a community picnic, so not only do we want to encourage you to get your friends, family, kids, pets, and neighbours involved, we want to help your community. Here are a couple of ways you can do that:
Donate to your local food bank. If you are in the KW area, click here to share your support, and have your donation tracked towards our goal.
Support small business by ordering food from a local restaurant who are offering takeout.
Help spread the word
Let others know about this global community event by:
Sharing: The Flock At Home Picnic Facebook event page with your friends, family, and colleagues, from around the world!
Go virtual: Set up a virtual picnic and invite your friends and family to picnic with you! Use Zoom, Houseparty, Facetime, Google Hangouts, Google Duo, or one of many other options.
Local picnic take-out options, in the KW area
Plan ahead to avoid disappointment. Reach out to your preferred venue to find out which days they are open for takeout / delivery, and how much notice is required.
Here are a few suggestions! Click on the name of each venue to open their website so you may see their menu and ordering details:
Arabella Park - beer, burgers, Beyond Meat burgers, and more
Hacienda Sarria - charcuterie, and wine (Friday pick up only)
Public Kitchen - beer, wine, burgers, poutine, and fried chicken
Queen of Hearts - afternoon tea, including scones, savouries, and sweets (we have heard that they have SOLD OUT for May 16)
Swine and Vine - charcuterie boxes, and wine is available upon request
The Grazing Table - charcuterie boxes, and desserts
Vincenzo’s - order groceries from this proprietary store, and select your own charcuterie board options
For vegetarian options from the list above, consider the Indulge box from The Grazing Table, or a Beyond Meat burger from Arabella Park.

Ideas for your picnic set up
Have fun with your set up! Here are some ideas of things to gather from around your home:
Cushions to sit on
Plant or flowers
Wine, beer, bubbly and/or colourful mocktails
Ice bucket for your drinks
Nice platter for your food
Something to prop your food up off the floor, such as upside down crate
Don’t forget the plates, glasses, and napkins
Have some summertime tunes playing
National Mimosa Day
Saturday, May 16 is not only our LIving Room Picnic, it’s also National Mimosa Day! Will you join us in having a mimosa?
The traditional mimosa is made with Orange Juice, but you can switch is up and try another juice. How about Grapefruit, Mango, Pear, Watermelon, or Raspberry juice? Or even mix the sparking wine with a refreshing pink Lemonade? Or be super crazy and mix juices - OJ and raspberry would get our vote! Top it off with some fresh or frozen fruit, plus some herbs (such as mint, rosemary, or thyme) as a garnish and you are good to go!
If you are really interested in trying something new, how about these options:
Hawaiian mimosa - made with sparkling wine, pineapple juice, and a splash of coconut rum.
Rose Raspberry mimosa - made with sparkling wine, raspberry sorbet, and a sprig of rosemary or mint.
Otherwise, just keep it simple like ours will be, with no juice ;) Make any of these options child friendly, by swapping out the sparkling wine for sparkling water or sprite.
